James Boyd
BALLET

James L. Boyd III is an artist born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He continues to tour and entertained the world with knowledge of multiple dance methods and professional styles of dance under his belt. James is a Douglas Anderson School of the Arts graduate and received his B.F.A from SUNY Purchase College, 2010, in Dance and Choreography. While attending SUNY, Mr. Boyd performed works by pioneers such as Merce Cunningham, Bill T. Jones, George Balanchine, and Paul Taylor. Since graduation he’s shared the stage and performed with Elton John, Lady Gaga, Mary J. Blige, and Bruce Springsteen. James was a guest artist with the hit dance show, “So You Think You Can Dance” and a semi-finalist on the well-known show, “America’s Got Talent”. While performing around the world, with the dance company Bad Boys of Dance and Bad Boys of Ballet, he’s felt privileged to share the stage with artists such as Misty Copeland, Joseph Gatti, Isaac Hernandez, Rasta Thomas to name a few. 

James Boyd holds a M.F.A degree in choreography, has an intermediary perspective on the dance industry and share’s objective and subjective reason in dance to all people. Mr. Boyd held an adjunct position for dance at Jacksonville University and currently a former adjunct professor for Alabama State University while currently a full-time faculty member, Lecturer, for the Department of Theatre and Dance at Troy University. He’s the founder of the company, Art in Flight, Inc. and resident choreographer for the ballet company, United Ballet Theatre. Mr. Boyd is honored to announce his new role as United Ballet Theatres resident choreographer and his first premier work with the professional athletes of U.B.T will premier Spring 2022: titled, Quintessence. 

Regarding research, James explores our universe with a choreographic perspective and identifies movement by making connections of opposite energies: entities and methods. Mr. Boyd is known for his intermediary approach in the dance industry and sought after by movement experts curious about movement enhancement.  James gain’s objective and subjective insight on injury prevention and an approach to movement with leading scientists and anatomical specialists leading toward a program called, Dance Movement Analysist. Both parties work with biofeedback companies such as Etrak and Mtrigger for the betterment of athletes and dance as athletes. 

James Boyd continues to craft opportunities such as, producing his first dance concert for Northeast Florida in 2012 titled, “Rasta Thomas’ Rock the Ballet”. James’ passion for community most notably is demonstrated through his incorporated for-profit endeavor known as Art In Flight Inc. As Founder and CEO, he activated its mission in 2016 and begun fundraising on behalf of arts agencies throughout Florida and Alabama. Art in Flight’s mission is to enhance the development and sustainability of arts organizations domestically in order to educate our citizens, increase arts appreciation and support, foster an arts rich culture and, in turn, help grow the individual student into a nationally beloved, thought-leading artist. 

Furthermore, James is an international faculty member for the Manhattan Dance Project, a Chief Operations Officer (COO) for United Ballet Theatre, a fulltime faculty member for the Department of Theatre and Dance at Troy University located in Troy, Alabama, former adjunct professor for ASU, a faculty member and judge for Dance Educators of America, and his latest accomplishment: becoming United Ballet Theatre’s resident choreographer. Mr. Boyd, is an annual Artistic Director for Troy University’s Spring Dance Concert and participates in, instructing, choreographing, and performing for festivals such as Alabama Dance Festival, Ballet Fest (Atlanta) and DAP Festival (Italy).
